Squaring the Culture

"...and I will make justice the plumb line, and righteousness the level;
then hail will sweep away the refuge of lies,
and the waters will overflow the secret place."

Funniest Thing I've Heard All Year

The Leftward Blogosphere is going absolutely Ape Droppings over ABC’s miniseries “The Path to 9/11”, to be aired this Sunday and Monday.

The miniseries, a dramatization of the events leading up to the 9/11 attacks as gathered by the 9/11 Commission (final report here if you want to browse it), reportedly portrays the Clinton administration (and the Bush administration as well) as full of bureaucratic inertia preventing any effective response to intelligence reports about terrorists. In particular, there are apparently scenes showing Special Forces ops with Bin Laden literally in their gunsights, being called off because nobody would take responsibility for the decision to terminate him.

Former President Clinton is the first of a deluge of calls to ABC to either edit or cancel the series.

It’s absolutely one of the funniest scenes I’ve ever lived through, funnier than any fiction could ever be. After enduring decades of anti-conservative Hollywood polemics, watching the Left losing their calm over ONE — that’s O.N.E — drama showing a Democratic administration in a less-than-perfect light is just too funny for words. I wish I could make some of these mooks live for a WEEK as a conservative; the unaccustomed deluge of negative vibes would make their fragile psyches come unglued.

A few things to note:

1) For former President Clinton, it’s always about The Legacy. His goal in life is to be remembered well, and to accomplish that, he’ll mount any attack, slur any character, steal any document, ruin any process, in order to have any negative publicity quashed. It’s not an accident that the 9/11 Commission had two incidents where former Clinton officials were caught red-handed attempting to divert attention from the Clinton years. I learned when I was a kid: when you catch somebody TWICE doing something, you’d better believe there were at least half a dozen instances of the same behavior that you did NOT catch.

2) Clinton never makes PR mistakes. He’s a PR genius. He knows the attention will boost ABC’s ratings, but he doesn’t care. Having an official complaint on record will forever sully the reputation of this particular series, regardless of whether it’s factual or not. Ten years from now, Democrats will still be talking about “the FALSE miniseries”, long after most of us have forgotten the incident.

3) ABC, while remarkable in its interest in presenting the events as gathered by the 9/11 Commission (Commision Chairman Kean was a paid consultant on the project),  is still a network full of leftists, and its reports and programs sport a noticeable leftward bias. If this report shows the Clinton administration in a negative light, you can bet the farm that the truth is an order of magnitude more damning.

4) We get yet another reminder of how the political Left really feels about freedom of speech. They’re not content to debunk a negative report, they have to silence it. Give these people enough power, and you can kiss the 1st Amendment goodbye; they will criminalize dissent. I’m not kidding.

5) Never forget: as dangerous as they are, the political Left is not the enemy in the current war. International Jihadism is the enemy. The government bureaucracy merely prevented good law officers from catching the bad guys in time.

The Modern Democratic Party: “We protect free speech, except when it tells the painful truth about US.”
