The Latest From the Gaffe Machine
Incredibly, Jake Tapper of ABC News noted one of Obama’s gaffes — just before making calm excuses for it.
Today on CBS’s Face the Nation, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in Afghanistan, told the paparazzi-pursued correspondent Lara Logan that “the objective of this trip was to have substantive discussions with people like President Karzai or Prime Minister Maliki or President Sarkozy or others who I expect to be dealing with over the next eight to 10 years.
Eight to 10 years?
Tapper’s snarky article goes on to explain that most likely, he was just talking casually and expected two terms. Tapper was a bit concerned, however, at how the candidate seems only now to be becoming aware that he needs to “finely calibrate his words.”
Slublog recalls the “57 states” comment, then observes the obvious:
Imagine if Dan Quayle had made these two misstatements in 1988.
Quayle’s misstatement was orders of magnitude less meaningful than Obama’s astonishing string of flubs. Does this mean Obama is not qualified to be President? If I’m being consistent, no, but also I need to point out that Quayle was in fact far more qualified to hold that office than Obama ever will be.
However, news reporters and professional comedians should consider the rage they’re amassing against themselves — they who sang the refrains with glee over Quayle’s mild faux pas, but are now reciting the excuses for Obama’s thorough and ongoing inability to say the right thing. Someday, somebody might introduce me to a news reporter or a comedian at a cocktail party, and if that unlucky individual wants to understand why I threw my drink in his face and left, they need look no further than this.

Obamasites have taken a page directly out of the Global Warming (er, climate change) playbook: the ends justify the means.
A new era of “change” ushered in by the Obamassiah is too important to be tripped up by inconsequentials like inexperience, platitudes rather than substantive ideas, and strong emotions as opposed to objective facts.
No matter how big the faux pas, I’m convinced they’ll give Obama a pass every single time…up to and including use of the N-word (don’t act so surprised: they did it for Jesse Jackson recently).
The mainstream media has already decided that Obama deserves to be the next POTUS and they are now people with a mission, masquerading behind a cloak of neutrality and unbiased-ness. Some, such as MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, have dropped the pretense altogether and publicly enthused about the tingles of excitement they get when Obama speaks.
