The Polls Blew It. Or Maybe…
The polls in Iowa were close. Most of the undecideds broke for Huckabee on the Republican side, while Biden’s and Richardson’s votes flopped over to Obama on the Democrat side.
The polls of Republican voters in New Hampshire were close. Most of the undecideds broke for McCain.
The polls of Democrat voters in New Hampshire were not close. They were dead wrong. And the undecideds don’t explain it.
Why?
ABC News Polling Director Gary Langer says “I don’t know, but we’re going to find out.”
Nobody’s saying it, so I will: The results we got may have been the result of massive voter fraud. I can’t see any other possible explanation. I’ll be looking for the results of the networks’ investigation.
Wry note: in the ABC article discussing the poll fiasco, a reader named George posted this:
I’m starting to wonder if what we’re seeing is the same type of thing we’ve seen in past elections– electronic voting fraud– which clearly helped Bush in the past two elections– could it be that the Republicans WANT Hillary to get the nomination and are desperate enough to make it happen?
All I can say is, Wow. The polls get everything right except the count for Mrs. Clinton, and this fellow’s only explanation is “the Republicans did it.”
Update: Excellent discussion of the polling fiasco at Pollster. He notes that the entire error appears in the underestimation of Hillary Clinton’s results; the results for all other candidates were accurate. The possibility that Ms. Clinton somehow stuffed the ballot box is completely absent from the discussion, however. Can somebody explain to me why? Ms. Clinton is the obvious benefactor, and the only result that was inaccurate, so logic dictates that if anybody did this illegally, she did.
